New president for the British Metals Recycling Association

United Kingdom: Shane Mellor, managing director of Norwich-based Mellor Metals in the east of England, has been elected the new president of the British Metals Recycling Association (BMRA). He takes over from former Sims Metal Management executive Graham Davy.Mellor brings 38 years’ experience to the post and will head an organisation comprising 340 members from within the ferrous and non-ferrous metal sectors. His appointment comes at a time when the UK scrap metal trade body is facing a major challenge in ‘finding a way for the industry to successfully communicate its genuine value to the society that we serve’, BMRA’s director general Ian Hetherington has stated. Last year, the UK metal recycling sector underwent a significant legislative change, with reform of the scrap licensing regime taking effect last October in a bid to combat metal theft.
